Nivaan* lives in a small communist country in Southeast Asia. Just a few short years ago, his country wasn’t really on Athletes in Action’s radar. But having a deep love for soccer, and believing the sport could be a bridge for evangelism among his people, Nivaan reached out to AIA to help him kickstart ministry there. As national authorities heavily monitor all religious activity, it took a bit of time to get things moving because ministry as usual won’t work here.
Field reports coming from countries that are closed to the gospel are clear: new strategies are needed to reach athletes for Christ.
But last year, AIA’s first projects took place in Nivaan’s country, including a summertime event where more than 100 participants joined in for a full day of soccer training and games. Throughout the day, they also heard testimonies of faith from the AIA team. And many heard the gospel message for the very first time. By the end of the day, 32 participants had committed their lives to Christ—in a country where violence against Christians has been on the rise.
Nivaan, who is now the Athletes in Action country director, is deeply grateful for the ministry support friends like you are providing, and for the lives you are touching.
“We have created many opportunities for connecting and building relationships with local churches and ministries in my country,” Nivaan says. “I myself would like to thank AIA supporters who have been praying and supporting with donations. I am so appreciative. Please continue to pray that we will reach and bring more people to Christ. That is our final goal!”
Your support is urgently needed to minister to athletes in some of the hardest-to-reach places on earth because the challenges are many.
With a generous gift today, you can respond to the call of national coaches and volunteers who understand how sports open doors for evangelism. They’re urgently asking for AIA’s help … and yours.
Would you consider making a generous donation today to give more athletes the opportunity to know Jesus?
